When you have something really good, don't you just want to pass it on? I love to share recipes that are really good. I love to pass them on. As believers in Christ, we have a commission to tell others about Jesus - especially parents to their children. After Joshua and his generation died, there was a serious problem. "Another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what He had done for Israel" (Judges 2:10b).
The result of that was, "Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their Glory for worthless idols" (Jeremiah 2:11). In Jeremiah 2:12, the LORD continues, "They have forsaken Me, the Spring of Living Water." This is what happens when one generation does not tell the next generation about God and what He has done in their lives. What a sad heritage for the children of that generation!
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). Children must be trained/taught the Right Way. They need that foundation, the heritage, of being taught about Jesus and what He has done in our lives. We must be well grounded in our own faith so we can pass it on.
"The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him" (Proverbs 20:7). Let's be righteous women and lead a blameless life so our children (and grandchildren) will be blessed! Let's pass it on.

Proverbs 22:6 is an excellect Bible verse for all to live by & we need to impress this on the young parents & grandparents & also to continue to live by it ourselves. Your devotion reminds me of the old hymn Faith of Our Fathers (the last verse says "and preach thee too, as love knows how by kind-ly words and virtuous life."

I can't imagine growing up not hearing about God's love. Teaching our children IS the MOST important job we have. Thank You for reminding us to "Pass It On"!

Thanks for your devotions! Another thing, I love How God gives us the example of Timothy being taught about Jesus by Lois and Eunice! Grandmothers should be very instramental too,

Thanks Kay,
ReplyDeleteI love Det 11:18-20 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds, tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you talk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.....
Over the last couple of years, God has really laid on my heart that we must teach our children all we know about God and help them to experience his blessing for themselves. So,they will also know God by experience and will teach their children.
Love in Christ,Jean Russell
